Hi, I'm Brooke

I am a trauma therapist, Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, and the co-creator of Moties. I'm also the founder and director of Therapywell Allied Health and Wellbeing, a multidisciplinary practice in Brisbane. I'm from Goondiwindi in Western Queensland, the land of the Bigambul People, where I grew up on a farm, spending my days mostly outside with horses or at the river exploring.

I’ve spent over a decade working in therapeutic roles across Australia and overseas — from specialist trauma services and youth mental health to working within communities facing complex systemic and intergenerational challenges. I bring this rich tapestry of experience into everything I do, including Moties.

As a neurodivergent clinician with a diagnosis of ADHD, and someone with lived family experience of mental health challenges and trauma, I know personally how important it is to have tools that meet people where they are — especially when words aren't enough.

Creativity, sensory exploration, and connection to nature are central to both my life and my work. Moties came to life through a beautiful, co-creative process with one of my clients — a gifted neurodivergent artist. What started as a shared project has grown into a tool that supports others to connect to their own inner world with compassion and curiosity.

I'm so glad you're here to meet the Moties.

Our Story

Moties began not as a product, but as a relationship.

After many years of working together, a therapist and a client —

an insightful, creative, and deeply resilient artist — found

themselves navigating the messy, beautiful terrain of healing:

trauma, neurodivergence, gender identity, grief, parts work,

and simply being human.

Throughout this journey, the therapist learned just as much

from the artist as the artist did from therapy. What emerged

between them was a shared language — one that didn’t always rely on words. Instead, it arose through imagery, humour, curiosity, horses, and felt sense.

Words often fell short in the depths of the therapeutic work. But sensations, movements, postures, sound and even silence spoke volumes. Sessions held in nature and alongside horses — present, co-regulating, attuned and non-judgemental— became the ground for a new kind of exploration. The horses were more than witnesses. They were co-facilitators of this idea: that experiences and emotions aren't always conveyed in words — they exist in shape, colour, posture, breath, and sensation.

From that space, Moties were born. Loosely inspired by the concept of bobo kaki, a playful notion that sounds, words, and feelings have shape and texture.

Together, Brooke (the therapist) and the artist sketched the first concepts: quirky, textured, compassionate characters representing the different “parts” and nervous system states we hold inside — from the protective and prickly to the playful and peaceful. The artist then took the sketches home and hand-felted the very first Moties. What began as a shared creative process became a full set of 20 unique felted characters, each one inviting us to meet ourselves with humour, tenderness and compassion. Brooke then developed a therapeutic card deck, alongside the artist's drawings to accompany the Moties — one that could support a wide range of clients, ages, and approaches.

The deck includes open-ended cards that work like a Rorschach, inviting projection and reflection, alongside therapeutic invitations designed to help explore nervous system states, internal parts, and sensory experiences.

Moties are an invitation — to feel, to name, to connect, and to honour every part of who we are.

Because at the heart of Moties is this core belief: When we can be with our felt experience and witness our stories, compassion allows every part a place in our world

Moties remain rooted in this original story. They were born from lived experience, therapeutic collaboration, and the deep belief that healing can be supported by sensory connection, creativity, and permission to explore all parts of self.

Moties are:

  • Designed and developed in Brisbane, Australia

  • Hand-felted in Nepal by an ethical, fair trade certified organisation

  • Crafted with care to be tactile, unique, and full of personality

  • Supported by a therapeutic card deck also created in Brisbane

Today, Moties are used by therapists, educators, families and individuals to support emotional exploration and connection. And while each character may look a little different, their intention is always the same: to make space for every feeling, part, and moment — just as it is.

Moties continues to honour its beginnings by centring neurodivergent voices, lived experience, and the belief that every part of us has a place.
